Transportation Assistant
About the role
The Transportation Assistant position is a field-based role located in Harrisburg, PA, working at construction sites in PennDOT Districts 2, 3, 4, or 8. The position requires monitoring and documenting construction compliance with plans and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Inspect various aspects of work on bridge or roadway construction sites
- Take field measurements and perform calculations
- Prepare relevant inspection reports
- Verify that appropriate materials and construction processes are being used
- Ensure that construction conforms to the project plans, specifications, and special provisions
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation
- Basic computer skills to use a tablet for documentation
- Strong English language skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to traverse construction sites and work outdoors in various climates
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Read and interpret plans and specifications
- Basic math skills
Qualifications
- Ability to work varying hours, including day and night shifts, with potential for overtime
- Passport not required but may be necessary for international travel

Pay
The approximate compensation range for this position is $20.76/hr to $24.42/hr. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location. Fast-tracked promotions based on performance.
Schedule
Work hours vary from daylight to night work based upon contractor operations; overtime is often required.
