Supervisory Pharmacist (Clinical)
This position provides oversight and strategic direction for pharmacy operations at the Pine Ridge Service Unit, including clinical care, staff management, and regulatory compliance in support of the Indian Health Service (IHS) mission.
A REAL ID-compliant identification will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).
Responsibilities
- Directs day-to-day operations of the pharmacy program, including staffing, scheduling, policy implementation, and compliance.
- Ensures compliance with all accreditation standards, maintains documentation, coordinates audits, and implements risk reduction strategies to ensure patient safety.
- Manages performance appraisals, establishes individual development plans, and provides coaching, feedback, and training for a diverse staff of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
- Serves as a medication subject matter expert for physicians, nurses, and other staff on drug-related problems; monitors adverse drug reactions and evaluates drug literature.
- Participates in medication reconciliation processes, interdisciplinary team rounds, and collaborative treatment planning.
- Works on a rotational basis to provide continuity of pharmacy services during days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.

- Must comply with the IHS Employee Immunization Policy related to vaccine-preventable diseases, consistent with recommendations for healthcare workers. Vaccine exemption requests may be available.
- Must obtain and maintain any required licensure. Failure to do so may result in adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
- Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements
- Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Licensure: Must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Experience: Must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform pharmacy work, including:
- Dispensing medications and providing information on usage and side effects.
- Evaluating medication use patterns and outcomes.
- Performing administrative, consultative, or advisory work for pharmacy programs.
- Planning, monitoring, and evaluating medication programs or regimens.
- Establishing medication-handling procedures.
- Researching medical literature or clinical medication information.
- Maintaining medication records required by law.
- Medical Requirements: Must be able to distinguish basic colors.
Minimum Qualifications (GS-13)
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service, including:
- Directing inpatient and outpatient pharmacy operations.
- Planning and assigning work, evaluating performance, managing schedules, and conducting hiring.
- Applying concepts, principles, and practices of clinical pharmacology and drug distribution systems.
- Selecting, compounding, dispensing, and preserving drugs, and providing advice on complex drug-related problems.
This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. The agency must ensure that persons hired have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.
