Supervisory Nurse (Women's Health)

This position provides full technical and administrative supervision for the Inpatient Women's Health Unit within the Division of Nursing at the Gallup Indian Medical Center, Gallup, New Mexico. A REAL ID will be required beginning May 7, 2025, in accordance with 6 C.F.R. 37.5 (2021).

Responsibilities

• Plans and adjusts work assignments and operations to meet organizational objectives, priorities, deadlines, and standards of care, with ultimate responsibility for patient care in the Women’s Health Unit.
• Assures nursing capabilities, staffing, and equipment requirements to meet work demands, safety requirements, and accreditation standards.
• Maintains the continuity and effectiveness of nursing services to ensure delivery of quality patient care and serves as a role model for professional nursing.
• Maintains competency in nursing skills, knowledge, practices, procedures, leadership, and management.

Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
• This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. The agency must ensure that persons hired have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.
• A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.
• Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
• May be subject to Employee Health Policies related to Measles, Rubella, and seasonal influenza immunizations. Vaccine exemption requests may be available.
• The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. Failure to do so may result in adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education to perform the duties of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work.

Basic Requirements

• Education: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. The program must be accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
• Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
• Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: For APN positions, a graduate or higher-level degree in nursing from an accredited program in the relevant specialty is required.
• Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination and possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
• Additional License Requirements for Advanced Practice Nurse Positions: Applicants must be licensed or registered in the clinical specialty required by the position.

Experience

The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-9 and above grade level, experience in a specialty area of nursing may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service, performing the following:

• Provide supervision, leadership, guidance, and direction to subordinate staff to organize, direct, and administer nursing care delivery to meet medical and nursing standards.
• Uphold and maintain the continuity and effectiveness of nursing services to ensure delivery of quality patient care and serve as a role model for professional nursing.

Education Verification
