About the role

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation using the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and direct a staff of physical scientists, environmental resource specialists, ecologists, and archaeologists in the environmental/cultural evaluation of New England District civil works projects and military projects, and the development of Environmental Assessments (EA), Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), and related studies and activities in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
  • Provide coastal zone management and water quality certification approvals for district activities.
  • Incorporate environmental features in plans and projects.
  • Comply with the National Historic Preservation Act.
  • Review environmental impact statements for other agencies.

Requirements

  • Archeology Series, 0193 - Education and related coursework as detailed in the requirements.
  • General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series, 0401 - Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines.
  • Ecology Series 0408 - Degree in biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research.
  • General Physical Science Series, 1301 - Degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics.
  • Chemistry Series, 1320 - Degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering.

Qualifications

  • One year of specialized experience which includes managing and reviewing environmental and cultural resource evaluations; coordinating complex environmental policies and project alternatives with external regulatory agencies, Indian tribes, and special interest groups; and managing project workloads, budgets, and schedules for technical or scientific teams.

Pay

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Schedule

  • Overnight business travel may be required 25% of the time.
