About the role
The incumbent shall assist the Director, Rehab Services in maintaining responsibility for the day-to-day organization and administration of a patient care center, contractual service, or management services as may be developed by the corporation. The incumbent is responsible to the Director, Rehab Services and/or POD Director and provides therapy evaluation and treatment utilizing advanced clinical skills as dictated by the facility’s needs. The incumbent also provides regular, direct clinical supervision to staff-level therapists.
Responsibilities
- Schedules patients to meet or exceed productivity standards while ensuring quality patient care.
- Participates in program development and serves on organizational committees as requested.
- Works with department heads to achieve compliance with hospital policies and procedures, recommending improvements to Executive Leadership as appropriate.
- Serves as a project manager/facilitator for strategic initiatives to meet organizational goals and objectives.
- Actively participates in orientation, mentorship, and staff development for new and future staff.
- Provides clinical supervision for students completing internships from various universities as requested.
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service education programs.
- Assists the Facility Director in supervising daily operations, including staffing needs, scheduling, time-off approvals, and the interviewing/selection process.
- Participates in capital and operating budget preparation, monitors monthly budget variances, and implements budget decisions.
- Designs, implements, or delegates orientation, mentorship, and staff development initiatives.
- Monitors staff performance and identifies areas for professional growth.
- Provides patient and/or family home instructions when applicable.
- Maintains professional licensure/registration through continuing education and professional development.
- Maintains written documentation for all PT, OT, and/or SLP services, including initial assessments, follow-up visits, and discharge summaries.
- Co-signs physical therapist assistant documentation biweekly.
- May serve as a clinical instructor for physical therapy students, residents, and fellows in a specialty area.
- Communicates patient status to referring physicians and healthcare team members.
- Serves as an educational resource for managing patients with musculoskeletal and neuromuscular complaints for junior staff.
- Promotes ongoing staff development through in-services and individualized instruction.
- Oversees daily operations of patient care services, including staffing needs, scheduling, time-off approvals, and the interviewing/selection process.
- Requests and reports objective feedback to the Facility Director regarding department performance and emergency situations.
- Supports and implements organizational directives from the management team.
- Rotates through treatment areas as needed to facilitate organizational needs.
- Leads program implementation to improve clinical, service, and financial outcomes.
- Performs PT, OT, and/or SLP assessments, reassessments, and treatments, and supervises PT and/or OT assistants in treating pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Develops and modifies patient plans of care based on physician referrals, injury/illness, and patient response.
- Works with PTAs and COTAs to adjust patient programs as status changes.
- Completes charge and statistical information to reflect services rendered accurately.
- Completes performance evaluations of direct reports in a thorough and timely manner.
- Assists the Facility Director in disciplinary processes and delegates performance reviews to Senior Staff as appropriate.
- Conducts continuing education, competency assessments, performance evaluations, counseling, and disciplinary actions as required.
- Serves as Facility Director or program coordinator in the incumbent’s absence.
- Acts as the administrative representative for UPMC CRS and the respective hospital on internal and external committees, affiliated boards, and civic organizations.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited program within the respective discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience required.
- Demonstrated clinical expertise in a specialty area preferred.
- Previous clinical teaching experience preferred.
- Marketing experience and ability preferred.
- Six months of experience with the Rehabilitation Institute preferred.
- Two or more years of supervisory/management experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Knowledge and skills required to provide quality customer service.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- CPR required based on AHA standards, including didactic and skills demonstration within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Occupational Therapist (OT) OR Physical Therapist (PT) OR Speech Pathologist.
- Act 34.
