Responsibilities
- Serves as the primary resource in the UPMC Vision Institute ? Mercy Office location for all IT network, database and troubleshooting issues for all Ophthalmic Imaging, Photography and Testing equipment within the UPMC Vision Institute imaging department.
- Works alongside UPMC IT/ITG group and vendors to minimize interruptions in patient care and service.
- Maintains viability of interface protocols utilized to exchange data and images among various department devices and databases.
- Maintains the equipment and related software, ensuring it functions within acceptable parameters and data storage and archival is current and secure.
- Ensures the accuracy and quality of all scans and images obtained is of the highest caliber, resolving issues promptly to minimize disruption to delivery of patient care.
- Collects and prepares research study reports in accordance with study protocol requirements, extracting electronic information from multiple sources.
- Uses IPROC home, MPS, and daily testing orders reports to inform clinic flow within the assigned pod, deciding if same-day add-on testing can be accommodated.
- Leads daily huddles with direct reports and Pod Coordinators, assigning imaging needs for each pod to ensure no wait.
- Engages, trains, reviews, discusses, and manages administrative tasks for 8-9 direct reports.
- Supports imaging patients, ensuring all equipment within each POD is utilized, inspected/updated, and cleaned according to regulations.
- Performs other related duties, assignments, and projects as requested by the Practice Manager.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Minimum of 10 years experience as an Ophthalmic Imaging Technician, Ophthalmic Technologist, Technician, or Ophthalmic Photographer in an academic Ophthalmology setting is required.
- May substitute a Bachelors degree in Information Technology or Photography plus a minimum of 5 years of experience as an Ophthalmic Imaging Technician, Ophthalmic Technician, or Ophthalmic Photographer.
- Hands-on experience with a wide range of ocular imaging and ophthalmic equipment, along with proven ophthalmic database expertise.
- Familiarity with research protocols and guidelines, ability to de-identify and protect raw patient data in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
- Understanding of anatomy and physiology of the eye, and systemic diseases and their impact on the eye.
- A working knowledge of programming/scripting is highly desirable.
- Previous supervisory experience is required.
