About the Role

The Health Information Management Supervisor supports other department leaders with daily operations, coordinates and supervises co-workers and activities, and assists with process improvements. The HIM Supervisor takes a proactive approach to identifying trends and solutions to ensure continuity and consistency.

Responsibilities

  • Support department leaders with daily operations.
  • Coordinate and supervise co-workers and activities.
  • Assist with process improvements.
  • Identify trends and solutions to ensure continuity and consistency.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor degree in Health Information Management.
  • 3 years of experience in HIM/medical records.
  • 2 years of experience in a leadership/management position.
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in a leadership/management position, or 3 years in a Release of Information or Master Patient Index role in an acute care setting.

Skills

Technical Proficiency and Knowledge

  • Thorough understanding of database and IT systems, policies, and processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of health records, EHR, coding, and billing.

Professional Competencies

  • Advanced analytical, problem-solving, data analysis, and research skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of coding guidelines and applicable federal/state laws and accreditation standards related to health information management.
  • Attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Self-starting, independent, highly motivated, and organized problem-solver.
