Responsibilities
- Plans, supervises, and coordinates the HIM Electronic Health Record (EMR) duties which include but are not limited to processing (prepping, scanning, quality reviewing), deficiency analysis, suspension, data integrity (master patient index, merges), release of patient information and other HIM workflows.
- Plans, establishes, and revises work assignments.
- Interviews, selects, and recommends hiring of personnel.
- Initiates recommendations for changes in classification, salary actions, promotion, demotion, transfer, and termination.
- Solves staff's concerns and administers appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Solves HIM related issues with physician and patient, family, and other customers.
- Sets up and submits required information to State, Federal, and other regulatory agencies in a complete and timely manner.
- Maintains productivity and implements process improvement activities on an ongoing basis.
- Works with Physician Suspension Specialist and reviews delinquent chart reports by physician to ensure complete accuracy before disciplinary action is taken by Medical Staff.
- Aids in the review of current processes and procedures and initiates improvements in workflows.
- Identifies and resolves day-to-day work-related issues as they arise.
- Solves problems related to document imaging applications, chart workflows, interfaces, and error messages.
- Works with Information Technology (IT) Services to resolve hardware and software issues.
- Provides departmental orientation, training, and serves as a resource.
- Performs daily production and quality checks in accordance to department standards and the needs of HIM customers.
- Attends internal and external development programs, and meets continuing education requirements.
Requirements
- Education: Associates or 2 years' work related experience Required
- Other/Certificate: Successful completion in Health Information Management program. Preferred
- Experience: 2 years lead, coordinating, or supervisory experience in any or all of the following: Release of information, correspondence, master patient index maintenance, records analysis, medical records processing. Required
- Other: Basic understanding and use of computers, telephones, fax, copy machines, and data entry into computer programs Required
- Experience: 3 years of lead, coordinating, or supervisory experience in any or all of the following: Release of information, correspondence, master patient index maintenance, records analysis, medical records processing. Preferred
- Knowledge: Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations relative to birth registration, and confidentiality and security of patient health information. Preferred
- Experience: Experience in a role utilizing excellent communication and analytical skills. Preferred
- Licenses/Certifications: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) - Certification Preferred or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) - Certification Preferred
