Primary Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership
- Aid in planning, organizing, staffing, and directing daily Food and Nutrition Services operations.
- Monitor staffing levels, schedules, and productivity to ensure operational efficiency while maintaining budgeted labor targets.
- Ensure exceptional service standards are consistently delivered to patients, guests, and co-workers.
- Oversee food preparation, presentation, portion control, product quality, and food safety standards.
- Support purchasing, receiving, inventory management, and distribution of food and supplies.
- Affiliate with cafeteria promotions, special events, and catering functions.
- Review and approve employee timecards, attendance records, and payroll-related documentation.
- Ensure proper cash handling, deposits, financial reporting, and accountability for cafeteria sales.
- Team Development & Employee Engagement
- Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training new team members.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance feedback to staff.
- Conduct regular team meetings, training sessions, and on-the-job education.
- Complete performance evaluations in a timely and consistent manner.
- Affiliate with employee relations matters, corrective action, and documentation in accordance with department policies.
- Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all Mercy policies as well as local, state, and federal regulations, including Joint Commission standards.
- Monitor patient meal delivery processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and satisfaction.
- Verify diet order compliance, allergy precautions, tray accuracy, and food safety practices.
- Maintain sanitation standards and oversee cleaning schedules throughout the department.
- Monitor food temperature logs, refrigeration records, and other required documentation.
- Conduct patient meal rounds and partner with leadership to improve patient satisfaction outcomes.
- Identify and address equipment, facility, and safety concerns while coordinating repairs as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced food service or hospitality environment.
- Ability to obtain Serve Safe Manager Certification (St. Louis/South Region) within 90 days of hire.
- Prior supervisory or leadership experience.
- Experience in an acute care hospital environment.
