Supervisor, Environmental Services

Core Job Functions

• Approves or recommends the selection of employees and evaluates employee performance.
• Schedules and assigns duties to staff ensuring appropriate coverage.
• Trains and instructs staff on cleaning and sanitation standards, to include proper mopping and cleaning methods.
• Ensures staff dispose of waste and handle soiled linens appropriately.
• Ensures compliance with occupational safety regulations and informs workers of potential hazards in cleaning supplies.
• Provides information to staff regarding material safety data sheets.
• Reviews and evaluates cleaning supply and equipment inventories and recommends or makes purchases.
• Makes rounds to inspect the work of staff and provides assistance and support during staffing shortages.
• Aids in the preparation of departmental budgets, considering the department’s goals and objectives.
• Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
• Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Core Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
• Certification and Licensing: Not applicable.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
• Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Knowledge of business and management principles; ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations; ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan; ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others; ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others; commitment to the University’s core values.
