Key Responsibilities
- Aid in interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, scheduling, evaluating, and coaching Environmental Services associates.
- Coordinate daily staffing assignments to enhance productivity, efficiency, and customer service.
- Investigate and resolve concerns or complaints from patients, visitors, staff, and other customers.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment while collaborating with other departments regarding repairs and facility needs.
- Interpret and enforce organizational policies, union agreements (if applicable), and departmental standards.
- Conduct routine rounds of patient care and public areas to ensure cleanliness and compliance with quality standards.
- Respond to service requests using department communication tools and prioritize assignments appropriately.
- Monitor patient throughput and discharge room turnaround times to ensure organizational goals are met.
- Perform and document pest control functions and coordinate project work assignments.
- Adjust staffing and workflows throughout shifts to ensure completion of projects and routine duties.
- Complete payroll responsibilities and maintain accurate departmental documentation.
- Ensure supplies, equipment, PPE, and storage areas are properly maintained and stocked.
- Perform quality assurance inspections, patient interviews, and monitoring activities to improve patient satisfaction and environmental standards.
- Communicate training, performance, and disciplinary matters effectively with department leadership.
Quality Improvement and Leadership
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support measurable action plans.
- Evaluate departmental services in collaboration with leadership and clinical teams.
- Inspect equipment regularly and coordinate repairs with vendors when necessary.
- Remain current on industry standards, best practices, and leadership development opportunities.
- Support process improvement initiatives and departmental strategic goals.
- Lead by example to maintain high-quality standards and customer service excellence.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Attend department meetings and remain accountable for shared information.
- Complete mandatory education, annual competencies, and employee health requirements on time.
- Maintain required certifications and registrations in good standing.
- Follow universal precautions, safety standards, and ergonomic practices.
- Comply with all organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and survey readiness activities.
- Remain available for overtime, additional shifts, or schedule adjustments when needed.
- Support Beacon’s operating principles by promoting innovation, accountability, communication, and performance improvement.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma is required; an associate degree is preferred.
- Previous leadership experience and/or hospital Environmental Services experience is preferred.
- A required certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
- Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are essential.
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills are required.
- Proficiency with computer systems and departmental technology is necessary.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Work is performed in both patient care and non-patient care environments.
- The position may involve exposure to chemicals, noise, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures.
- Prolonged standing and walking, as well as lifting, pushing, and other physical activities necessary to perform job duties, are required.
