About the role
The Supervisor in the Enrollment and Billing department is responsible for the end-to-end process for their assigned team, including organizing workflow, ensuring employees understand their duties or delegated tasks, monitoring employee productivity, and providing constructive feedback and coaching. The ideal candidate will manage, guide, and train employees, be well-versed in department processes, and be result-driven to ensure operations are carried out productively for profitability and sustainable growth. This role oversees compliance mandates from federal and state regulatory agencies.
Nature and scope
This role directly manages the following positions:
- Enrollment & Billing Specialist I
- Enrollment & Billing Specialist II
- Enrollment & Billing Specialist III
- Enrollment Compliance Specialist
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- 3 years of operational experience (required)
- 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience (required; may run concurrently with operational experience)
- Enrollment & Billing experience (preferred)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interpret and convey information tactfully and professionally
- Strong organizational and analytical abilities, effective interpersonal skills
- Ability to recognize inconsistencies and gaps in business processes and take appropriate action
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, make decisions, find solutions, and work independently under aggressive deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to coach and develop front-line staff
- Ability to work cohesively in a team environment to ensure efficient task completion
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn new systems
- Must complete the BCBSLA Leadership Development Program within 6 months of start date
- Thorough insurance knowledge to apply company policies, guidelines, state and federal laws, and mandates
- Administer HR functions, including hiring, terminating, performance reviews, setting performance standards, approving work schedules, assigning workload, training, and coaching staff
- Serve as the subject matter expert for end-to-end processes
- Maintain knowledge of required lines of business, regulatory changes, HIPAA, and company policies to lead and train the unit
- Log daily inventories in the tracking dashboard to monitor inventory levels
- Identify system and process gaps, respond to system issues, test and approve programming changes
- Provide dedicated customer service to assigned areas and maintain strong working relationships with key departments
- Facilitate enrollment and billing training as needed
- Monitor, track, and assign team tasks daily
- Participate in corporate and other projects as assigned
- Attend or facilitate meetings as needed
- Monitor outsourcing relationships with vendors to ensure quality and service-level agreements are met
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned within scope of responsibilities
This role reports to: Manager, Enrollment & Billing.
Necessary contacts include various internal departments (e.g., Account Managers, Accounting, Actuarial, Claims, Compliance, Customer Service, IT, Legal, Marketing, Underwriting) and external parties (e.g., Agents, Brokers, Department of Insurance, Department of Health and Human Resources, vendors, subscribers).
