Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain lab facilities including the Academic Computing Center, K123, Seaton Computing Center, and other assigned labs.
- Hire, train, schedule, and supervise lab assistants.
- Install and maintain hardware and software in the labs.
- Provide day-to-day support to instructors and students using the labs.
- Create and distribute lab-related documents and gather lab usage statistics.
- Determine promotion, disciplinary measures, or termination of employment for lab aides.
- Assist in scheduling classroom labs and handle schedule conflicts.
- Track the sale of print cards, print units, and related records; collect cash for the paid printing system.
- Communicate lab policies, schedules, software, and hardware availability to faculty and students.
- Maintain communication with faculty regarding lab problems affecting student usage.
- Provide access to computer software, hardware, and student accounts on appropriate systems.
- Coordinate installation and maintenance of computer hardware and software.
- Provide technical assistance to lab patrons with computer software, printing, and use of scanner, digital projector, document camera, video player, and copier machine.
- Respond to service requests from IT Help Desk and apply technical knowledge to solve problems with computer software, hardware, printing, and projection systems.
- Coordinate services and repair of lab facilities with Campus Services.
- Organize routine cleaning of computer equipment in all assigned labs.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and create Help Desk tickets for problems with software, hardware, audio, and video equipment.
- Provide daily lab activity reports to the Manager and other lab support staff.
- Provide information to the Manager as needed for the planning process.
- Instruct faculty/staff on the use of equipment in computer classrooms and technology-enhanced classrooms.
- Contribute to the faculty/staff training effort of IT.
- Establish policies and procedures for daily operations of all assigned labs.
- Develop technical and procedural documentation for both external and internal use.
- Work with other IT areas on joint projects.
Qualifications
- Completion of core for a two-year Associate’s Degree in Data Processing or equivalent work experience required; Associate of Science Degree preferred.
- One year of experience with personal computers required.
- One year of supervision experience in a computing environment required.
- Demonstrated organizational and computer problem-solving skills required.
- Working knowledge of Windows, Mac OS, and microcomputer applications required.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English required.
- Two years of supervisory experience in computer service preferred.
- Excellent people skills preferred.
- Demonstrated training and communication skills preferred.
- One year of programming experience in at least two languages preferred.
- Knowledge of microcomputer hardware preferred.
- Experience with academic use of IBM PC and Macintosh computers preferred.
- Experience with the use of Microsoft Office and Adobe and Macromedia products preferred.
- Knowledge of Windows, Mac OS, Unix, and DOS/VSE preferred.
- Knowledge of computer LANs including some knowledge of Novell NetWare preferred.
Working Conditions
- Work involves exposure to PC, Macintosh, laser printer, inkjet printer, scanner, digital projector, visualizer, VCR, and copy machine.
