College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, offering nine associate degrees and a wide variety of professional and technical certificates on its 273-acre campus.
About the role
Under general direction of the Manager of Office and Classroom Technology, this position manages and maintains lab facilities including the Academic Computing Center, K123, Seaton Computing Center, and other assigned academic labs.
Responsibilities
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate student lab aides, applying managerial expertise to determine promotions, disciplinary measures, or termination.
- Assist in scheduling classroom labs and handle schedule conflicts.
- Track the sale of print cards, print units, and related records; collect cash for the paid printing system.
- Communicate with faculty and students regarding lab policies, schedules, software, and hardware availability.
- Maintain communication with faculty on lab problems affecting student usage.
- Collect and track lab usage statistics.
- Provide access to computer software, hardware, and student accounts on appropriate systems.
- Coordinate installation and maintenance of computer hardware and software.
- Provide technical assistance to lab patrons with computer software, printing, and use of scanners, digital projectors, document cameras, video players, and copiers.
- Respond to service requests from the IT Help Desk and apply technical knowledge to solve problems with software, hardware, printing, and projection systems.
- Maintain the lab computer classroom environment.
- Coordinate services and repairs of lab facilities with Campus Services.
- Organize routine cleaning of computer equipment in all assigned labs.
- Identify, troubleshoot, and create Help Desk tickets for problems with software, hardware, audio, and video equipment.
- Provide daily lab activity reports to the Manager and other lab support staff.
- Provide information to the Manager as needed for planning.
- Instruct faculty and staff on the use of equipment in computer classrooms and technology-enhanced classrooms.
- Contribute to the faculty/staff training efforts of IT.
- Establish policies and procedures for daily operations of all assigned labs.
- Develop technical and procedural documentation for both external and internal use.
- Work with other IT areas on joint projects.
Requirements
- Completion of core for a two-year Associate’s Degree in Data Processing or equivalent work experience required; AS Degree preferred.
- 1 year of experience with personal computers required.
- 1 year of supervision experience in a computing environment required.
- Demonstrated organizational and computer problem-solving skills required.
- Working knowledge of Windows, Mac OS, and microcomputer applications required.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English required.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 years of supervisory experience in computer services.
- Excellent people skills.
- Demonstrated training and communication skills.
- One year of programming experience in at least two languages.
- Knowledge of microcomputer hardware.
- Experience with academic use of IBM PC and Macintosh computers.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Micromedia products.
- Knowledge of Windows, Mac OS, Unix, DOS/VSE, and computer LANs including Novell NetWare.
Working Conditions
- Work with PC, Macintosh, laser printers, inkjet printers, scanners, digital projectors, visualizers, VCRs, and copiers.
- This position requires a background check.
Schedule
- Saturday: 8am to 4pm (fall and spring semesters only)
- Sunday: 12pm to 6pm
Pay
Starting salary beginning at $26.25/hourly, based on education and experience.
