Supervising Public Health Nurse

This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate and future appointments may be made. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelve months.

Examination Schedule

Qualified candidates will be notified of the oral examination date 5 days prior to the examination.

• Oral Exam (Weight 100%): Conducted to appraise training, education, experience, interest, and personal fitness for the position.
• The Human Resources Division may solely conduct an appraisal of application materials if there is an insufficient number of candidates to warrant an oral exam.

Applicants must attain at least a 70% score on each phase of the examination process.

Admittance to the examination will require a valid government-issued photograph identification. Applicants unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.

Minimum Qualifications / Employment Standards

• One (1) year of experience in a position equivalent to a Public Health Nurse II in a public health or community health setting.
• OR four (4) years of nursing experience, with at least one (1) year in a lead capacity.
• Possession of a valid and unrestricted Public Health Nurse Certificate issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing.
• Possession of a valid and unrestricted California Registered Nurse license issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing.
• Possess and maintain a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card.
• Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License is required upon appointment.

Failure to maintain a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Registered Nursing will result in termination.

A background check may be conducted for this classification. Following an offer of employment, you may be required to submit to post-offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
