Superintendent I & II

Mortenson is seeking a Superintendent to provide coordination, planning, and supervision for assistant superintendents, contractors, and craft activities. This role focuses on developing customer relationships through excellent service and is available at both Level 1 and Level 2, depending on experience and qualifications.

This position involves overseeing construction activities, ensuring materials, equipment, and inspections align with the project schedule, and fostering collaboration among project partners.

Responsibilities

• Plan and implement strategies to ensure materials, equipment, and inspections support the project schedule.
• Review construction documents for completeness and constructability; understand contract documents and coordinate plans with design engineers.
• Develop and manage the project schedule and site logistics plan; utilize tools and equipment effectively.
• Collaborate with project partner superintendents to align on project goals.
• Coach, supervise, and develop team members; conduct orientations, planning sessions, and site meetings.
• Supervise project partners, including interviewing, hiring, transferring, and dismissing team members as needed.
• Ensure proper task coding, lead and track work progress, and handle team member training.
• Conduct career development discussions with team members.
• Build effective relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and organizational levels.
• Lead by example, offer coaching and feedback, and manage performance.
• Provide high-level management of safety, quality, risk, and compliance.
• Recognize and mitigate unfavorable conditions; seek process improvements.

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, OR 10 years of trade experience.
• Current driver’s license.
• Ability to fulfill responsibilities from development to closeout for multiple, complex projects.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
• Basic understanding of construction law and business practices.
• Intermediate Microsoft Office skills.
• Positive, professional attitude with a strong customer service focus.
• Ability to interpret and communicate company policies.
• Effective communication and active listening skills; openness to diverse input and feedback.

Qualifications

Superintendent I

• Minimum 5 years of construction management or related experience.

Superintendent II

• Minimum 8 years of construction management or related experience.

Pay

The base pay range for this role varies by level and location:

• Superintendent I: $111,400 - $167,100
• Superintendent II: $130,100 - $195,200

Actual ranges are higher for specific locations: Denver, CO, and Chicago, IL (+5%); Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR (+10%); Washington, D.C. (+12.5%). Base pay is positioned within the range based on knowledge, skills, experience, and internal equity. This position is eligible for Mortenson’s incentive plan.
