Summer Camp Counselor II- Outdoor Recreation

About the role

The purpose of this classification is to ensure a positive and enriching camp experience for camp participants in activities such as, but not limited to, hiking, rock climbing, tree climbing, paddlesports, archery, and crafts.

Responsibilities

• Ensures that all rules are followed by camp participants.
• Oversees, directs and organizes camp participants.
• Prepares facilities and equipment for camp activities.
• Learns and implements positive behavior-management techniques.
• Maintains clear and positive communication with supervisor, co-workers, parents and camp participants.
• Implements camp activities and adjusts as needed under guidance of the summer camp leadership team.
• Administers First Aid and reports injuries/accidents/illnesses to summer camp leadership team.
• Serves as role model to camp participants and other staff.
• Maintains and stores camp equipment and supplies.
• Facilitates camp activities as needed.
• Drives the division’s 15-passenger sprinter vans and other county vehicles to and from local and regional activity destinations.
• Responds to incidents and other situations according to camp policies and procedures with guidance of summer camp leadership team when necessary.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Previous experience working or volunteering with youth in a camp, educational or group setting is preferred.
• Must possess organizational skills; be enthusiastic, adaptable, dependable and responsible.
• Must be able to work outdoors and participate in active games and programming.
