About the role
The YWCA of the Niagara Frontier is seeking two Summer Day Camp Counselors for its ABLE Summer Learning program. This is a full-time, 8-week position from Monday to Friday.
Responsibilities
- Set up and implement activities daily, varying as needed
- Conduct initial and end of season inventory, store all equipment safely
- Submit orders for supplies after planning out the summer schedule, ensuring timely arrival of materials
- Keep an ongoing binder with lesson plans for all activities
- Delegate to counselors all needed support to complete projects, help needed to set up and clean after completion of activity
- Accompany all off-site trips and be responsible for a group of campers during the trip
- Provide support when needed for other staff activities
- Encourage camper interest in math and literacy in the world around them by making use of those teachable moments which arise
- Teach and monitor proper use of all equipment
- Conduct daily check of program area for safety, cleanliness and adequate supplies
- Evaluate current season and make recommendations for equipment, supplies, and program for following season. Update written plan for activities as needed
- Some duties may be reassigned, and other duties may be assigned as required
Requirements
- Training and experience in math and/or literacy
- Ability to organize projects
- Ability to teach in at least one area noted above
- Ability to work with a staff of diverse backgrounds and age groups
- Ability to accept guidance and supervision
- Ability to manage camper behavior through the use of sound methods designed to develop behavior that demonstrates respect for self and others
- Communicate all necessary information to Camp Director
- Follow all established policies and procedures
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
- Must be at least 18 years of age

- High School Diploma/GED
- Full-time, 8-week position from Monday to Friday
