About the role
The purpose of this classification is to ensure a positive and enriching camp experience for camp participants in activities such as, but not limited to, hiking, rock climbing, tree climbing, paddlesports, archery, and crafts.
Responsibilities
- Ensures that all rules are followed by camp participants.
- Oversees, directs and organizes camp participants.
- Prepares facilities and equipment for camp activities.
- Learns and implements positive behavior-management techniques.
- Maintains clear and positive communication with supervisor, co-workers, parents and camp participants.
- Implements camp activities and adjusts as needed under guidance of the summer camp leadership team.
- Administers First Aid and reports injuries/accidents/illnesses to summer camp leadership team.
- Serves as role model to camp participants and other staff.
- Maintains and stores camp equipment and supplies.
- Facilitates camp activities as needed.
- Drives the division’s 15-passenger sprinter vans and other county vehicles to and from local and regional activity destinations.
- Responds to incidents and other situations according to camp policies and procedures with guidance of summer camp leadership team when necessary.
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Previous experience working or volunteering with youth in a camp, educational or group setting is preferred.
- Must possess organizational skills; be enthusiastic, adaptable, dependable and responsible.
- Must be able to work outdoors and participate in active games and programming.
