Substitute Teacher - Certified

About the Role

This is a per diem position to supervise and instruct students in the absence of a teacher, ensuring continuity of student learning and maintaining classroom order.

Certification

This posting is only for Certified Substitute Teachers. You must have a valid NYS teaching certificate to be hired. Proof of certification must be attached to your application.

Pay

• Substitute Teacher - Certified: $140 per day
• Retired Substitute Teacher - Certified: $150 per day (must be retired from a public school district)
• Building Sub - Certified: $150 per day
• Certified Long-term Substitute: $160 per day

Semester Bonus: Certified substitute teachers who work 55 full days per semester (September–end of January; February–June) receive a $250 bonus at the end of each semester.

Building Sub Bonus: Building Subs who work 80 full days per semester receive an additional $500 bonus (in addition to the $250 per diem sub bonus).

Schedule

Building Subs: Assigned to one specific building while students are in attendance. Must commit to a minimum of 4 days per week (5 days preferred) for a full semester. Building Subs are assigned on an annual basis from the existing substitute teacher list.

Long-Term Substitutes (LTS): A certified substitute working 30–89 consecutive days for the same teacher qualifies as a Long-Term Substitute. LTS pay begins on the first day of the assignment and reverts to the standard per diem rate once the assignment ends. LTS pay does not apply when substituting for a Teaching Assistant, covering only part of a teacher’s day, or if the substitute lacks certification in the same subject area.

If a Building Sub moves into an LTS position, they forfeit the Building Sub Bonus but remain eligible for the $250 Sub Teacher Bonus. LTS positions are determined by an approved Leave of Absence (LOA) of 30+ days or an unexpected extended absence. Retroactive LTS pay applies after 30 consecutive days.

Requirements

• Valid NYS teaching certificate (required for Certified Substitute Teachers).
• Completion of all paperwork and an online orientation before being added to the substitute teacher list.
• Accurate email addresses for references must be provided in the application.
