Substitute Special Education Teacher
Learn Academy is a certified K-12 private day school approved by the California Department of Education to provide Special Education Services for the following disability categories: Autism (A), Emotional Disability (ED), Mild Intellectual Disability (MIID), Moderate Intellectual Disability (MOID), Other Health Impaired (OHI), Specific Learning Disability (SLD), and Speech-Language Impairment (SLI).
About the role
Substitute Teachers will be part of a team that works with students with emotional and behavioral needs, providing therapeutic interventions, de-escalation, pre-crisis and post-crisis interventions, as well as instruction when our regularly scheduled educator is unable to attend work. This position is supported by one to three behavior technicians who assist with classroom management, behavior documentation and reporting, implementing social/emotional/behavioral interventions, and participating in teaching and instruction.
Responsibilities
- Provide curriculum and instruction in the absence of the regularly scheduled educator
- Manage classroom behavior using the school-wide Positive Behavioral Supports program
- Maintain student records and documentation as needed
- Collaborate with and receive feedback from peers and supervisors
- Maintain a professional and clinical perspective at all times
- Safely and effectively use Crisis Management Interventions, including therapeutic holds
- Follow the school schedule and work variable days/hours
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- Active and valid Substitute or other Education teaching certificate issued by the California State Department of Education
- Experience working with emotional and/or behaviorally challenged students preferred
- PCMA certification is a plus but not required
- Ability to not internalize or personalize student behaviors or mannerisms
- Presently eligible to work in the United States
Pay
$29.28 per hour
