About the Role
The Guest Teacher / Guest Teacher Aide will comply with all applicable school policies and guidelines, including those addressed in the Guest Teacher handbook.
Responsibilities
Guest Teacher Duties
- Leadership
- Consistently exhibit the fruit of the Spirit, spiritual maturity, and Christian character before students, parents, and the school community.
- Exhibit humility and grace in leading the class.
- Actively and joyfully participate in Matins, Evensong, car line, or any other scheduled events during the school day.
- Seek biblical solutions to problems with empathy and grace; humbly listen to, consider, and respect the positions of others (students, parents, administration, and colleagues).
- Understand and uphold the purpose and culture of The Academy while contributing to its mission and vision.
- Professionalism
- Demonstrate a biblical approach to work, including punctuality, attitude, speech, appearance, and attention to duties.
- Classroom Management
- Follow and teach the provided lesson plan for the day.
- Enforce classroom and school discipline policies to maintain an orderly atmosphere of mutual respect.
- Ensure students understand expectations and display self-discipline.
- Maintain communication with "specials" teachers (art, music, language, etc.) as needed.
- Ensure the classroom is clean and well-ordered at the end of the day.
- Student Learning
- Provide classroom opportunities for prayer, worship, fellowship, and teaching of God’s Word.
- Stimulate and maintain student interest in the material while addressing individual student needs.
Guest Teacher Aide Duties
- Consistently exhibit the fruit of the Spirit and spiritual maturity before students and the school community.
- Exhibit humility, grace, and joyfully participate in Matins, Evensong, car line, or other scheduled events.
- Communicate with teachers, students, peers, and parents with grace-filled honesty, mutual respect, and kindness.
- Collaborate well with peers and co-workers; adhere to the relational covenant: think the best of others, speak directly to and not about one another, and address concerns with the supervising teacher or principal as needed.
- Assist the teacher as a loving and consistent disciplinarian in upholding school rules and policies.
- Support the classroom teacher in creating a productive environment by performing tasks such as cutting, pasting, copying, filing, and preparing materials.
- Work with small groups according to the teacher’s plans.
- Assist with lunch duties, outdoor activities, bathroom issues, sick children, and nap time (including reading to students).
- Ensure all parent correspondence or discussions about negative student behavior are approved by the classroom teacher.
- Maintain classroom cleanliness by wiping tables, straightening materials, and assisting with end-of-day cleanup.
- Monitor students during dismissal.
- Support the teacher in guiding and teaching the class, contributing when asked.
- Assist in redirecting students who are not showing kindness to others.
- Set up materials ahead of lessons (e.g., handwriting pages or math activities).
Physical Requirements
- Able to sit, talk, hear, and maintain awareness of classroom visitors.
- Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Able to stand for extended periods as needed.
- Able to work at a desk and computer for extended periods as needed.
- Able to turn, bend, reach, and occasionally use a ladder if needed.
