About the role
Act as a first responder when students are in crisis and in need of adult support. Work with administration to create, implement, monitor, and assess discipline policies and procedures. Assist with the de-escalation of students in crisis and help students transition from crisis situations to successful re-entry into the classroom. Support students in setting and achieving academic, attendance, and behavioral goals that promote school success.
Responsibilities
- Monitor student progress toward academic, attendance, and behavioral goals
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, and the school for identified students
- Regularly communicate with students, families, and school personnel about student progress
- Facilitate student intervention plans and maintain related records
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records on academic, attendance, and behavioral data
- Provide monitoring, supervision, and alternative activities for students removed from the classroom for disciplinary reasons
- Promote student involvement in extracurricular activities
- Work a flexible schedule to attend after-school and evening events
- Monitor students during unscheduled times and at lunch
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Sit, stand, speak, hear, see, and walk to carry out routine duties
- Occasionally lift, move, or push items up to 50 lbs (e.g., assisting children or moving furniture)
- Supervise students in all types of weather
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and staff
- Implement Crisis Prevention Intervention strategies, including physical restraint and escorting
Work Environment
- Noise level ranges from quiet to loud
- Work may be indoors and/or outdoors, including non-air-conditioned rooms
- Substance-free environment
- Fast-paced atmosphere with constant contact with students, staff, or the public
- Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven record of building rapport with culturally diverse students
- Ability to work effectively in teams and exhibit positive interpersonal skills
- Proficiency in technology skills necessary to complete job duties
- Experience working with at-risk populations preferred
- Willingness to support and implement Davenport’s multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for behavior and academics
- Good attendance record
Pay
Minimum starting salary: $17.24 per hour (dependent on education and experience).
