Job Summary
Performs intermediate professional work designed to ensure compliance with student enrollment, state compulsory attendance legislation, and accurate reporting of student enrollment and attendance data.
Essential Duties
- Receive and process attendance referrals within the requirements set forth in the PPS Attendance Handbook;
- Access the student information system to monitor attendance and other information related to attendance reporting;
- Aid school staff with attendance data corrections and reporting;
- Maintain a working knowledge of division resources for appropriate referrals based on identified family needs;
- Participate in CHINS and SST processes when appropriate;
- Prepare and maintain accurate and appropriate documentation for reporting to schools, service agencies, and the courts;
- Meet with school-based attendance staff on a weekly basis to monitor and support compliance with compulsory attendance legislation;
- Support and inform students and parents relative to attendance requirements, expectations, and consequences;
- Make home visits when appropriate in conjunction with an interpreter;
- Work closely with building-level staff to ensure compliance with reporting requirements of agencies outside of the school division;
- Run monthly reports by school to assist with the identification of truant students;
- Ensure execution of court packages within required timelines;
- Respond to subpoenas and present required evidence to document student attendance and related issues of concern to the court.
Job Specifications/Physical Requirements
- Thorough knowledge of the court operations and intake procedures;
- Through knowledge of the laws pertaining to compulsory school attendance;
- Ability to conduct interviews and investigations;
- Ability to intervene with students and families on attendance problems;
- Ability to maintain proper and accurate documentation of interactions with students and staff;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with division personnel, students, their families and other professionals;
- Ability to navigate the PowerSchool system to gather data appropriate to compliance with attendance mandates;
- Ability to navigate sociocultural needs through work-related tasks;
- Light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects;
- Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;
- Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken work levels;
- Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities;
- The worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, and hazards.
Education And Experience
- An Associates Degree or equivalent;
- Experience working in an educational setting;
- Communicating with parents and building level staff;
- Experience with general record keeping;
- Advanced Spanish proficiency skills as designed through ACTFL, the CEFR scale, or a comparable proficiency measurement.
