About the role

The Student Life Manager - Associate Director of Student Advocacy and Support Services reports to the AVP of Student Affairs. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing operational initiatives and special projects that advance the goals of the Student Affairs division.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations and direct work of the Student Affairs main office, ensuring alignment with institutional objectives and compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate Student Affairs' office part-time staff while implementing operational plans, policies, and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services to students.
  • Facilitate front-line team meetings, workshops, and training sessions to keep them informed and aligned with divisional and institutional goals.
  • Manage the Student Affairs email, triaging incoming queries and referring students to appropriate resources in a timely manner.
  • Oversee and manage the emergency grant and scholarship processes, ensuring timely and fair distribution of funds to qualifying students.
  • Coordinate with relevant partners to determine applicant eligibility. Maintain application database, including eligibility determination, funding sources, approval and denial rates.
  • Implement non-clinical interventions to provide care, support, and resources for students with health challenges, housing, finances, academics, behavior, safety, and other aspects of their general welfare.
  • Manage the student complaint process to ensure the College's commitment to treating all students fairly and respectfully when concerns and/or disputes arise.
  • Maintain and update the Student Affairs website, ensuring relevant, up-to-date, and user-friendly content.
  • Guide frontline staff in monitoring Student Affairs department websites and encourage directors to keep their respective pages current and informative.
  • Coordinate special projects as directed by the AVP of Student Affairs while assisting in the development of project plans, including scope, objectives, and deliverables, ensuring resource availability and allocation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support successful project implementation and completion.
  • Serve as the Student Affairs liaison to the Business Office, collaborating with departments across the division to address outstanding fiscal, procurement, operational, and administrative matters in a timely and effective manner.
  • Prepare reports and perform other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice-President of Student Affairs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and six years’ related experience required.
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in project management and operational leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in the use of technology, including student information systems, project management software, and data analytics tools.
  • Experience working with large, underserved populations.
