Student Life Assistant
About the role
The Student Life office is looking for a responsible Student Life Assistant to perform a variety of administrative and clerical tasks. Duties of the Office Assistant include providing support to the Student Life department, overseeing the Campus Food Pantry, assisting in daily office needs and managing our departmental general administrative activities, programs and events.
Essential Job Functions
- Oversee the day-to-day management of the Campus Food Pantry and Grab and Go Stations.
- Cook the SNAP coach program.
- Interface with students, faculty, and staff and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.
- Answer and direct phone calls.
- Write and distribute email, correspondence memos, letters, faxes and forms.
- Aid in the preparation of regularly scheduled reports.
- Create and maintain filing system.
- Order supplies and conduct office inventories.
- Maintain contact lists and initiate timely follow-up.
- Update information in Cecil Connect, Colleague and Cecil College website.
- Collaborate with Marketing to assist with publications and social media platforms
- Aid in facilitating student life activities, programs and events, including setup and cleanup.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements to Perform Work
- A high school diploma required; an associate degree preferred.
- Administrative Assistant or Office Assistant experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Working knowledge of office equipment, like printers and fax machines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
Scheduling Requirements
Monday-Friday between hours of 8:00 am -4:30 pm. 20-25 hours per week.
Physical Demands
This position requires lifting of food pantry items that may at time be up to 20 pounds. This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as sedentary work involving lifting no more than 20 pounds at a time and occasionally lifting or carrying articles like docket files, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required occasionally, and other sedentary criteria are met.
Work Environment
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.

Pay
The rate for the position is $18.50/hr.
