Student - Lab Assistant - Mechatronics

Summary of Responsibilities

• Reviews the completed tasks of students in the laboratory
• Ensures the lab is operated safely and in compliance
• Maintains a clean and organized laboratory
• Reviews tools and inventory to ensure that all items are returned and properly accounted for
• Other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Must be a current UVU student majoring in Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Engineering, Automation, Manufacturing, or a related field. Must have a basic understanding of electrical circuits, PLC fundamentals, industrial safety procedures, and hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with PLC programming
• Robotics
• Motor controls
• Pneumatics
• Oscilloscopes
• SCADA systems
• Inventory management systems
• Tutoring, mentoring, or customer service

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of the correct operation and safe use of the tools and equipment students use to complete their lab tasks
• Knowledge of electrical safety and basic wiring knowledge
• Knowledge of UVU Mechatronics program policies and procedures
• Skill in the operation, adjustment, calibration, and maintenance of the electrical, CNC, powertools and related components and equipment used in the Mechatronics Lab
• Ability to adapt to the variations in the curriculum and course material, to solve problems and think on your feet
• Ability to communicate effectively with an instructor and multiple students
• Ability to follow detailed written and verbal directions
• Ability to explain detailed procedures to students
• Ability to speak loud enough to be heard over the general noise of a Mechatronics lab
