Student Assistant - FWS- Emergency Management

About the role
The USF Department of Emergency Management (DEM) offers federal work-study students the opportunity to work with DEM on the Tampa Campus. This role is designed to enhance a student’s experience in the emergency management field through involvement with emergency management programs and networking.
Responsibilities
- Develop and review emergency plans and policies.
- Create outreach materials for emergency management preparedness and response programs and participate in educational outreach.
- Attend meetings with representatives from the local, state, federal, non-profit, and private sector emergency management community.
- Develop and participate in drills and exercises to practice emergency response procedures.
- Conduct research within the field of Emergency Management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a currently enrolled USF student with a current Federal Work Study (FWS) award for 2026-2027.
- Applicants must demonstrate proof of their FWS award by printing their “Award Offer” screen from Student Self-Service (accessible via my.usf.edu > Student Self Service > Financial Aid > Award Offer).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Students pursuing a career in emergency/disaster management, homeland security, criminal justice, or a related field.
- Strong written communication skills.
Skills
- General computer and administrative skills, including detail-oriented processes.
- Ability to quickly learn new computer systems.
Pay
$15 per hour
Schedule
- Flexible around class schedule within business hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday–Friday.
- In-person, in-office attendance required.
- Average of 20 hours per week.
