About the role

The Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator supports the Director and Assistant Director in operational readiness, preparation, implementation, and evaluation of various emergency management plans. This includes developing and maintaining plans, coordinating disaster responses, and collaborating with local, state, and federal agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Aids in the maintenance of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC).
  • Coordinates disaster responses with local governments, schools, industries, and partner agencies.
  • Assists the Local Disaster Recovery Manager with reimbursement activities.
  • Updates on evolving threats and advises leadership as needed.
  • Prepares and documents industry surveys, inspections, and incident responses for local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Answers public inquiries about emergency plans and procedures.
  • Contributes to the administrative workload, identifies and develops databases, and prepares charts and reports.
  • Provides customer service, resolves problems or complaints, and identifies budgetary needs.
  • Investigates environmental incidents and notifies relevant agencies.
  • Maintains proficiency in software applications for resource requests, GIS mapping, damage assessment, and incident management.
  • Operates and maintains fleet and equipment readiness, including operating forklifts, trucks, and trailers.
  • Drafts incident action plans and after-action reviews.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Public Administration, or a related field, plus two (2) years of experience in disaster and emergency management, emergency services, or a similar field. Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree and completion of NIMS courses.

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Current NIMS training courses (IS Level, 100, 200, 300*, 400*, 700, 800, 2200, and 2901).
  • Available for periodic assignments after normal work hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to attend training classes and public education programs.

Skills

Technical judgment, independent decision-making, multi-tasking, communication skills, and proficiency in various software applications are essential.
