Structural Welder Journeyman - (Night Shift)

About the role

This position will join numerous types and configurations of metal components using one or multiple welding processes, as required by site specifications and national code requirements. The Welder will adhere to all site safety requirements while performing work as instructed by supervision.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, weld symbols, and other written instructions and diagrams to perform tasks accurately.
• Follow project specifications, Quality Control program documents, and Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
• Perform GTAW, SMAW, FCAW, GMAW, and other mixed types of welds based on project needs.
• Field install welds, including structural, duct work, hoppers, bag houses, and attachment points for Electricians, Ironworkers, and Pipefitters.
• Weld pipe, including stainless steel, various types of chrome, and carbon pipe.
• Select proper fillers for welding tasks based on welding procedure specifications.
• Prepare welding surfaces per welding procedure to achieve proper joint detail.
• Assist pipe fitters with measurements, prep work, material installation, and other tasks to complete the job.
• Work with other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
• Take direction from higher-skilled workers or foremen.
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of heavy industrial construction processes.
• Communicate with Foreman regarding problems, material requirements, or hazards.
• Work different shifts and overtime as required.
• Work under production schedule pressure while maintaining accuracy and safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Leadman, Foreman, or Superintendent.

Requirements

• 4+ years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
• Knowledge of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
• Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic math skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using units of weight, measurement, and volume.
• Ability to follow written or oral instructions and work within precise standards of accuracy.
• Visualize objects in three dimensions from plans and drawings.
• Recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings in objects or drawings.

Physical Demands

• Work up to a 12-hour shift performing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outdoor conditions.
• Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
• Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
• Perform repetitive tasks continuously for several-hour intervals.
• Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and loud noises.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, and vest.
• Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
• Work at heights and comply with all safety and fall-protection requirements.
• Good balance, vision (natural or corrected), and hearing (natural or corrected).
• Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet effectively.

Schedule

This is a full-time position typically scheduled for 50 hours per week. The schedule is subject to project requirements. Travel is required up to 90%, with presence directly on the project site location and intermittent travel to residence of record.

Pay

$37.00 per hour plus a $2.00 shift differential, commensurate with experience.
