About the Role

This position involves joining various types and configurations of metal components using one or multiple welding processes, as required by site specifications and national code requirements. The Welder will adhere to all site safety requirements while performing work as instructed by supervision.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, weld symbols, and other written instructions and diagrams to perform tasks accurately.
• Follow project specifications, Quality Control program documents, and understand WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications).
• Perform GTAW, SMAW, FACW, GMAW, and other mixed types of welds based on project needs.
• Field install welds, including but not limited to: structural, ductwork, hoppers, baghouses, and attachment points for electricians, ironworkers, and pipefitters.
• Weld pipe, including stainless steel, various types of chrome, and carbon pipe.
• Select proper fillers for welding tasks based on welding procedure specifications.
• Prepare welding surfaces per welding procedure to achieve proper joint detail.
• Assist pipefitters with measurements, prep work areas, help prep material for welding and installation, and complete other tasks as needed.
• Work with other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
• Take direction from higher-skilled workers or foremen.
• Demonstrate basic knowledge of construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction.
• Communicate with foremen regarding problems, material requirements, or hazards noted.
• Work different shifts and overtime as required.
• Work under production schedule pressure and attain set standards of accuracy.
• Perform duties in a safe manner.
• Other duties as assigned by Leadman, Foreman, or Superintendent.

Requirements

• 4+ years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High School Diploma or GED Certification (preferred).

Skills

• Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations.
• Actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
• Set a personal example of safe behavior.
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using units of weight, measurement, and volume.

Physical Demands

• Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
• Maintain physical strength and stamina; use arms, hands, and legs fully.
• Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
• Perform tasks repetitively and continuously for several-hour intervals.
• Work in uncontrolled environmental conditions, including constant changes in weather and site conditions.
• Moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, and vest.
• Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas.
• Work at heights and abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; wear and utilize all required safety equipment.

Schedule

This is a full-time position typically scheduled to work 50 hours per week. The schedule is subject to project requirements.

Travel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.

Pay

Compensation: $37.00 per hour plus $2.00 shift differential.
