Street Maintenance Worker III (Transportation and Public Works) (Non-Civil Service)

About the Role

The Street Maintenance Worker III performs a variety of semi-skilled, strenuous labor duties in the maintenance, care, and repair of streets, facilities, utilities, aviation grounds, public spaces, landscaping, and park grounds.

Responsibilities

• Performs a wide range of strenuous labor for street maintenance activities, including setting forms, mixing and pouring concrete, spreading and laying asphalt or crack seal for the maintenance and repair of sidewalks, curbs, gutters, or streets; operates air/jack hammer to break out old concrete or asphalt.
• Lays various pipes for storm or sanitary sewers, drains, or water mains to ensure proper flow; loads and unloads tools, construction materials, and equipment onto trucks.
• Flags traffic and sets out barricades, cones, or other safety devices to ensure crew and public safety.
• Digs ditches and trenches to specific grades; trims, shovels, cuts, and cleans up debris; removes vegetation; cleans drainage ditches, inlets, storm drains, and sewer lines using power-operated equipment.
• Drives dump trucks, tractor-driven mowers, or other equipment to transport tools, equipment, supplies, or materials; cuts grass, removes litter and weeds, and cleans facility grounds, street medians, and vacant lots.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment; completes timesheets and pre-trip inspections.
• Provides quality customer service by communicating effectively and responding to issues or concerns professionally.
• Performs any other assigned duties.

Requirements

• 3 years of experience in strenuous labor assisting in the cleaning, maintenance, and repair of streets, storm drains, and sewer lines.
• CDL - Group B (Commercial Driver’s License).

Skills

• Knowledge of equipment and tools used in construction repairs.
• Ability to maintain and operate hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of surface preparation and adaptability of surface materials.
• Knowledge of standard colors, configuration, and placement of lane markings and traffic signs.
• Understanding of safety procedures.
• Ability to read, write, and develop reports.
• Ability to follow drawings, designs, and oral or written instructions.
• Experience operating large equipment requiring a CDL and adhering to safety standards.
• Ability to perform heavy labor for extended periods.
• Ability to establish and maintain strong relationships.
• Understanding of traffic laws and street maintenance activities.

Pay

Salary range: $47,819.20 – $53,164.80. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications.
