About the role

A Staff Solutions Engineer at BetterUp serves as the technical architect for the company's most strategic enterprise engagements, including Key Accounts, Strategic Enterprise, and Government deals. This role involves owning the full pre-sales cycle from discovery through handoff, building the business case in CFO and COO terms, and leading the SE function's AI and automation strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical architect on the largest and most strategic opportunities, owning the full pre-sales cycle from discovery through handoff
  • Own peer-level relationships with CIO, CISO, and VP Engineering buyers, earning these relationships through domain depth and sustained over deal cycles
  • Build the business case in CFO and COO terms, structuring ROI narratives and modeling value independently
  • Anticipate and address integration, security, and platform feasibility challenges before they arise, providing structured recommendations and clear tradeoffs
  • Define and maintain reusable SE assets, such as industry-specific blueprint libraries, scaled demo archetypes, and integration pattern catalogs, to lift the capability of the entire SE team
  • Lead the SE function's AI and automation strategy, identifying high-leverage opportunities, piloting them with rigor, and embedding what works into team-wide practice
  • Coach SEs on navigating business-driven deals, developing non-HR buyer relationships, and operating in complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise environments
  • Contribute to GTM strategic planning, SE function design, and platform roadmap conversations with Product and Engineering leadership

Requirements

  • 10+ years in Solutions Engineering, Pre-Sales, or Technical Consulting in enterprise SaaS, with multiple years owning the most complex deals at your organization
  • Active, nameable relationships with CIO, CISO, or VP Engineering-level buyers, and a track record of closing deals where IT or Finance, not HR, was the primary champion
  • Deep fluency across HRIS, LMS, SSO, and API-based integration ecosystems, advising at the architecture level, not just the configuration level
  • Expert-level command of enterprise security posture, data residency, and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR) in global enterprise contexts
  • Demonstrated ability to build ROI narratives and business cases for CFO and COO audiences independently
  • Proven experience building SE team infrastructure, such as playbooks, blueprint libraries, training programs, and integration pattern catalogs, that reduce dependency on individual expertise
  • Proficiency using AI tools (Claude, Figma Make, Python prototyping) to amplify SE leverage across blueprint generation, demo automation, and POC development
  • Track record of mentoring and developing more junior SEs and contributing to the maturity of an SE function

Qualifications
