About the role
The Staff Services Management Auditor (SSMA) conducts operational, compliance, and/or performance audits or reviews of entities participating in the Beverage Container Recycling Program (BCRP) that receive funds from CalRecycle, or other State or local entities subject to audit under the California Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act. This role operates under close supervision of the Senior Management Auditor (SrMA) and focuses on less difficult and/or less complex audits in accordance with general audit standards and the Department’s established audit procedures.
Travel is required throughout California, including overnight travel, with up to 50% travel annually. The incumbent must hold and maintain a valid California driver's license and be able to travel via various public transportation methods, including commercial airlines, public shuttles, and shared rental cars.
This position may be eligible for hybrid telework for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to telework eligibility criteria. Beginning July 1, 2026, CalRecycle staff will be office-centered, requiring employees to report to the office at least four days per week. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework and may be required to report to the designated headquarters location at their own expense.

Responsibilities
- Conduct operational, compliance, and performance audits of entities participating in the Beverage Container Recycling Program (BCRP) or other State/local entities subject to audit under the California Beverage Container Recycling and Litter Reduction Act.
- Perform audits in accordance with general audit standards and the Department’s established audit procedures.
- Travel throughout California, including overnight stays, with up to 50% travel annually.
- Maintain a valid California driver's license and utilize various transportation methods, including commercial airlines, public shuttles, and shared rental cars.
- Adhere to hybrid telework policies, if eligible, and report to the designated headquarters location as required.
Requirements
- Valid California Driver’s License (CDL) required. Applicants must provide their CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements/restrictions.
- Ability to travel extensively, including overnight stays, with up to 50% travel annually.
- Eligibility for hybrid telework (if residing in California) or compliance with office-centered requirements beginning July 1, 2026.
- Submission of a standard state application (Form Std. 678) with an original signature, clearly indicating RPA 25-144 and Position # 835-477-5841-704.
- Attachment of unofficial or official transcripts to verify educational requirements.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications stated in the Classification Specification for the Staff Services Management Auditor role. Eligible candidates include those currently in the classification, eligible for lateral transfer, reinstatement, list or LEAP eligibility, or those in the process of obtaining list eligibility. SROA and/or Surplus candidates are given priority.
Pay
- $4,470.00 - $5,330.00 (Range A)
- $4,611.00 - $5,770.00 (Range B)
- $5,528.00 - $7,269.00 (Range C)
New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of the alternate range when applicable.
Schedule
- Permanent, full-time position.
- Hybrid telework eligible for California residents, subject to policy criteria.
- Beginning July 1, 2026, office-centered with a requirement to report to the office at least four days per week.
