About the role

As a Staff Management Auditor (Internal Audit Specialist) with the California Lottery, you’ll lead high-impact audits that strengthen accountability, transparency, and operational excellence. You’ll perform and guide complex audits, support consistent audit methodology and quality, and coordinate key administrative and reporting activities that keep our audit program running smoothly. You’ll also collaborate with external auditors and support statewide risk-management efforts through the State Leadership Accountability Act (SLAA). With flexible telework (three days at home) and collaboration across all levels of the organization, you’ll make a meaningful difference in safeguarding public trust.

Requirements

• Eligibility for the Staff Management Auditor classification (see exam information below).
• All experience and education relating to the Minimum Qualifications listed on the Classification Specification must be included in your application.
• Background investigation clearance required prior to hiring.
• No felony or gambling-related offense convictions (per the California State Lottery Act).
• For education-based eligibility, provide transcripts and/or diploma. Foreign transcripts require an evaluation indicating equivalent units.
• Must reside in California to be eligible for telework (per California Government Code Section 14200).

Working Conditions

• Headquartered in Sacramento with a hybrid telework schedule (three days remote).
• Employees must report to the assigned headquarters as needed.
• Travel expenses to and from headquarters are the employee’s responsibility.

Pay

$7,530.00 - $9,823.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific bargaining units and excluded state employees are subject to a salary reduction of 2% - 4.62% in exchange for Personal Leave hours each month.
