Staff Psychologist (Clinical)

About the role

The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Responsibilities

• Provides culturally sensitive clinical services for a wide range of mental disorders, including identification of at-risk patients and delivery of comprehensive risk assessments and safety planning.
• Conducts thorough and complete psychodiagnostic assessments of both their own patients and as a consultant to other clinicians.
• Provides education to patients, family members, and significant others.
• Delivers comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
• Collaborates with Veterans and other team members in developing and implementing recovery-oriented treatment plans.
• Consults with professional staff within the BHIP team, the CBOC, the Mental Health Service, and the larger medical center, as well as to community providers when appropriate.
• Develops, implements, and documents individualized treatment plans for an assigned caseload of patients.
• Ensures compliance with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of Clinical Reminders in the electronic medical record.
• Complies with all clinical documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check-out procedures.
• Functions independently as a member of the VHSO's Mental Health Service staff with full clinical privileges.
• Affirms complete professional responsibility for clinical assessment findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.
• Performs other clinical duties as assigned by Program Manager, Deputy ACOS for MH, and/or ACOS for MH, provided they are clinically qualified to perform such duties.

Requirements

Basic Requirements:

• US Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Education: Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) - the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) - or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed.
• Internships: Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
• Licensure: Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

Preferred Experience:

• Evidence-Based Psychotherapy (EBP) - such as CBT-D, ACT, IPT, CBT-I, CBT-CP, DBT.
• Experience providing behavioral health services with adult populations.
• Experience providing behavioral health services through telehealth modalities.
• Experience working as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary care team.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of and ability to apply a wide range of professional psychological treatments or assessment methods to a variety of patient populations.
• Ability to design and implement effective treatment strategies.
• To incorporate new clinical procedures.
• To conduct research activities, such as designing and implementing clinical research projects (staff psychologists with specified research job duties).
• To perform basic research tasks of scholarship and research execution within the context of an established research team, including research participant relations, research documentation, data acquisition, maintenance, and collaboration.
• To provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health.
• To provide consultation to professional staff within the BHIP team, the CBOC, the Mental Health Service, and the larger medical center, as well as to community providers when appropriate.
• To develop, implement, and document the individualized treatment plan for an assigned caseload of patients.
• To comply with national and local performance measures, including timely health care screening and completion of Clinical Reminders in the electronic medical record.
• To comply with all clinical documentation procedures, including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check-out procedures.

• To comply with all measures necessary to maintain current practice capability, including all licensure and credentialing requirements.
• To perform other clinical duties as assigned by Program Manager, Deputy ACOS for MH, and/or ACOS for MH, provided they are clinically qualified to perform such duties.
