Staff Psychologist

About the role

The incumbent will serve as a Health Psychologist for the MOVE! Program at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center and its corresponding VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

Responsibilities

• Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team - including dietitians - nurses - nurse practitioners - exercise physiologists - physicians - and other therapists
• Supports weight management and health promotion for Veterans
• Manages and delivers services
• Collaborates with the VA medical facility interdisciplinary MOVE! weight management team
• Attends National and VISN level monthly MOVE! meetings
• Promotes and maintains effective working relationships with all staff and significant parties at the national - state - and local level
• Directs or participates in the design of studies - collects data - conducts statistical analysis - interprets findings - and translates results into written and oral communications
• Serves - in collaboration with the VA medical facility MOVE! Provider Champion and other clinical content experts - as a subject matter expert to provide education and consultation on evidence-based weight management services and interventions - including pharmacotherapy and metabolic and bariatric surgery
• Promotes information about training opportunities - such as MOVE! Weight Management Program Overview in Talent Management System (TMS)
• Participates in local TEACH for Success - Motivational Interviewing - and Clinician Coaching
• Provides education and consultation on addressing weight bias/stigma and whole health approaches
• Provides individual patient EBT to MOVE! patients as needed - across settings - in support of patient participation in the MOVE! program and meeting CLI goals
• Performs assessment services to patients of the MOVE! program - including but not limited to - bariatric evaluations - eating disorder screenings - MOVE! intake evaluations - and suicide risk assessments (as needed)
• Complies with all electronic medical record documentation procedures - including timeliness standards for documentation and proper patient check out procedure (e.g. - entering diagnostic and procedure codes)

Requirements

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program.

Qualifications

• Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) - the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) - or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed
• The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed
• Have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and - in addition - successfully complete a re- specialization program (including documentation of an approved internship completed as part of the re- specialization program) meeting both of the following conditions:
• The re-specialization program must be completed in an APA or a CPA accredited doctoral program
• The specialty in which the applicant is retrained must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed

Skills

Knowledge of - and ability to apply - professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations

Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health

Knowledge of clinical research literature

Pay

Grade Determinations: Staff Psychologist - GS-13 (Full Performance - Level)

Experience: At least two years of experience as a professional psychologist - with at least one year equivalent to the GS-12 grade level

In addition to the experience above - the candidate must demonstrate all of the following KSAs:

• Knowledge of - and ability to apply - professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations
• Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health
• Knowledge of clinical research literature
