Staff Psychologist

Duties

  • Provides psychological care and services to Veterans with mental health conditions
  • Offers mental health consultation and liaison support to primary care providers within the primary care clinic at the VA Hackensack Outpatient Health Clinic
  • Provides individual psychotherapy to Veterans experiencing a range of mental health conditions - including those identified by primary care providers as having depression, PTSD, suicidal ideation, or alcohol and/or substance use disorders
  • Provides couples counseling and family therapy when clinically appropriate
  • Conducts mental health triage for Veterans referred by primary care providers for urgent mental health concerns or for those requiring support, intervention, or risk assessment
  • Delivers time-limited individual and group psychotherapies designed to promote healthy adjustment to long-term medical conditions, with particular emphasis on Veterans whose medical issues increase their risk for secondary complications
  • Collects assessment information and develops comprehensive treatment plans for Veterans
  • Serves on hospital committees as assigned and functions as an advisor, consultant, and resource to medical center staff
  • Maintains accurate records and follow-up data for assigned Veterans
  • Contributes to program planning by evaluating the effectiveness of mental health services and recommending modifications to better meet the needs of the Veteran population

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Psychology from an accredited institution
  • Licensed to practice psychology in the state of New Jersey
  • Experience providing psychological care and services to Veterans with mental health conditions
  • Experience conducting mental health triage and delivering time-limited individual and group psychotherapies
  • Experience serving on hospital committees and functioning as an advisor, consultant, and resource to medical center staff

Pay

Pay for this position is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

This position has no set tour hours. Work is scheduled based on clinical demand and the employee is compensated only for hours actually worked.
