Staff Psychologist

About the role

The position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Responsibilities

• Works within the Mental Health Division's (MHD) Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program, serving as a Clinical Psychologist.
• Works closely with the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) lead, nurse care manager, and all primary care interdisciplinary team members to provide consultation, therapeutic counseling, and mental health support for mild-to-moderate cases.
• Diagnoses mental disorders, conducts brief psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, treats mental health disorders through various psychotherapeutic modalities, and provides adjunctive interventions for medical disorders.
• May be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.
• Provides functional assessments and diagnostic services for Veterans with a range of psychopathology who are receiving care within VAPORHC.
• Uses contemporary interview and psychometric assessment methods for mental disorders and/or behavioral health conditions.
• Educates patients and family members about mental disorders and best practice approaches to treatment.
• Provides evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy and psychoeducation.
• Consults with healthcare providers about assessment findings and treatment plans to ensure coordinated, collaborative, and integrated care within VAPORHCS.
• Develops, implements, and documents the mental health treatment plan for patients presenting in primary care, as indicated and appropriate for the specific job setting and duties of the psychologist.
• Achieves minimal clinical workload expectations as established by the Service Line.
• Supervises trainees conducting direct clinical care.

Requirements

• Must meet specific individual eligibility requirements for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).
• Must hold a doctoral degree in psychology from an APA, PCSAS, or CPA accredited program.
• Must have completed a re-specialization program meeting both conditions (a) and (b) if applicable.
• Must have a doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature.
• Must have completed a professional psychology internship training program accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed.
• Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in the United States or the District of Columbia.
• Must be board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology in a specialty area consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.
• Must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and abilities in professional psychological treatments, clinical research, and consultation.

Qualifications

• Experience: At least one year as a professional psychologist equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
• Knowledge: Ability to apply a wide range of professional psychological treatments or assessment methods to a variety of patient populations.
• Skills: Ability to design and implement effective treatment strategies; ability to incorporate new clinical procedures; ability to conduct research activities such as designing and implementing clinical research projects; ability to perform basic research tasks of scholarship and research execution within the context of an established research team.
• Abilities: Knowledge of and ability to apply professional psychological treatments to the full range of patient populations; ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health; knowledge of clinical research literature.
