About the role
You’ll be joining the Cook Counseling Center team; a department centered on promoting student learning, development, retention, and holistic well-being by providing resources for improving mental health and identifying psychological barriers to academic success.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct clinical services to undergraduate and graduate students, including initial consultation and assessment, crisis intervention as needed, individual and group counseling, psychiatric referrals, and consultation with faculty, advisors, and staff regarding student mental health concerns.
- May be asked to provide supervision for unlicensed staff and trainees.
- Provide backup coverage for the after-hours crisis service as assigned.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree, from an APA-approved program with an APA-approved internship and be licensed or licensed eligible as a licensed clinical psychologist in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Supervision may be provided with a goal of licensure within 1 year from start date of employment.
- Experience providing focused therapeutic interventions with a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience and interest in collaboration with academic departments, faculty, and staff.
- Training and experience in delivering culturally competent interventions.
- Well-developed counseling and clinical supervision skills.
- Experience with outreach and educational programming, e.g., prevention programs.
- Experience managing crisis situations, completing risk assessments, and disposition planning to address safety risks.
- A self-motivated, self-directed commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice.
- The energy to flexibly manage the professional demands of the role while maintaining positive and healthy relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues with acceptance, respect, and trust.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
