About the Role

Under the general direction of the Senior Psychiatrist (Supervisor), the Staff Psychiatrist in Mental Health Services is a member of an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team providing general population outpatient services to inmates. The team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric social workers assigned to a Service Area.

  • Perform psychiatric evaluations and participate in treatment planning and case reviews.
  • Prescribe medications and provide crisis intervention and psychotherapy.
  • Offer consultations and training in treatment approaches to clinical and custody staff.

Pay

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) reduces the base salary of full-time employees by 4.62% and provides 8 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months. Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to prorated conditions.

  • Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) authorized rates: P $30,259.00 / Q $31,136.00.
  • 15% pay differential for employees providing direct in-person patient care more than 50% of the pay period.
  • Eligible for a $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend after six months of employment.
  • Eligible for a $5,000 monthly recruitment and retention differential during the first year of employment.
  • CDCR/CCHCS employees may qualify for a $5,000 referral bonus if the referred candidate is hired and remains employed for 90 days.
