This position is located at California State Prison, Los Angeles County (LAC), in Lancaster, CA.

About the Role

Under the general direction of the Senior Psychiatrist (Sup), the Staff Psychiatrist in Mental Health Services is a member of an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team providing general population outpatient services to inmates. The team includes other psychiatrists, psychologists, and psychiatric social workers assigned to a Service Area.

• Performs psychiatric evaluations, participates in treatment planning and case reviews.
• Prescribes medications and provides crisis intervention and psychotherapy.
• Provides consultations and training in treatment approaches to both clinical and custody staff of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team.

Pay

This classification is subject to Section 5, Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) Authorization of the California State Civil Service Pay Scales. The authorized HAM rates are: P $30,259, Q $31,136 per month.

Effective July 1, 2023, employees in this class who are physically located at and assigned to direct in-person patient care on grounds or at a facility shall receive a pay differential equivalent to 15% of their monthly base pay. Only employees who provide direct patient care more than 50% of the pay period are eligible for this differential.

Recruitment and Retention Bonus may be available for clinicians newly hired with California Correctional Health Care Services. Eligible employees may receive:

• A $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend after six months of employment.
• A monthly recruitment and retention differential during their first year (totaling $5,000).

CDCR and CCHCS employees may be eligible for a $5,000 referral bonus if the selected candidate remains employed for 90 days.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) requires full-time employees in Bargaining Unit 16 to have their base salary reduced by 4.62% and receive 8 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly for at least 16 months. Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same conditions on a prorated basis.
