Staff Psychiatrist, CF - California Correctional Institution (CCI)

About the role

The Staff Psychiatrist, CF (SAFETY) position(s) at California Correctional Institution (CCI) in Tehacapi, CA, is part of the Mental Health Services team. The position is effective July 1, 2025, and is subject to the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025).

Responsibilities

• Perform psychiatric evaluations and participate in treatment planning and case reviews.
• Prescribe medications and provide crisis intervention and psychotherapy.
• Provide consultations and training in treatment approaches to both clinical and custody staff.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include:

• A Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree.
• A valid California Medical License.
• At least three years of experience in a correctional setting.
• Experience in crisis intervention and psychotherapy.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

Additional qualifications include:

• Completion of a residency program in Psychiatry.
• Knowledge of correctional mental health issues and treatment modalities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with inmates, staff, and families.

Pay

The starting salary range for this position is P $30,259 - Q $31,136, subject to the Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) Authorization of the California State Civil Service Pay Scales.
