About the Role
The Staff Psychiatrist (Safety) at California Institution for Women (CIW) in Corona, CA, serves as a member of an Interdisciplinary Treatment Team providing outpatient mental health services to the incarcerated population. Under the general direction of the Senior Psychiatrist, this role involves psychiatric evaluations, treatment planning, medication management, crisis intervention, and psychotherapy. The psychiatrist also provides consultations and training to clinical and custody staff.
Responsibilities
- Perform psychiatric evaluations and assessments.
- Participate in treatment planning and case reviews.
- Prescribe and manage psychiatric medications.
- Provide crisis intervention and psychotherapy.
- Consult with and train clinical and custody staff on treatment approaches.
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including psychologists and psychiatric social workers.
Requirements
Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for Staff Psychiatrist, Correctional and Rehabilitative Services (Safety). Additional details are available in the Duty Statement.
Pay
- Base salary reduction of 4.62% under the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025), with 8 PLP 2025 leave credits granted monthly for at least 16 months (effective July 1, 2025).
- Authorized Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) rates: P $30,259, Q $31,136.
- 15% monthly pay differential for employees providing direct in-person patient care more than 50% of the pay period (effective July 1, 2023).
- Eligibility for a $10,000 one-time recruitment and retention stipend after six months of employment.
- Eligibility for a $5,000 recruitment and retention differential during the first year of employment.
- $5,000 referral bonus for CDCR/CCHCS employees who refer a candidate successfully hired and retained for 90 days.
