About the role
The Nursery Registered Nurse (RN) at UNC HEALTH Lenoir provides evidence-based, quality patient care to newborns. The role involves utilizing the nursing process, directing, providing, and evaluating age-specific patient care according to the department's scope of service.
Responsibilities
- Analyze patient health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, and maintain medical records.
- Evaluate mother/caregiver’s understanding to education and report findings to providers.
- Refer high-risk newborns for high-risk tracking, provide breastfeeding assistance to breastfeeding mothers, and maintain a safe rooming-in environment.
- Assist provider in the care of sick newborns, including IV/UVC insertion, monitoring/treating blood glucose levels, administering bedside CPAP, drawing neonatal labs, interpreting lab values, initiating/maintaining bilirubin light therapy, providing neonatal resuscitation, etc.
- Aid in stabilizing newborns for transport to higher care level facilities (Level II, III, IV).
- Develop and implement nursing care plans, communicate and interact professionally with providers, staff, patients and families.
- Maintain electronic medical records.
- Provide nursing services to infants and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
Qualifications
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
- BLS certification, ACLS certification within one year.
- Additional certifications such as PALS, TNCC, and ENPC encouraged but not required.
Requirements
- One year Nursery/NICU RN experience preferred; will consider new graduate with a passion for newborn care, elevated skill level and good time management.
