About the role
The Staff Development Nurse (RN) is responsible for the planning, coordination, and implementation of educational programs for nursing staff within a long-term care/skilled nursing facility. This role ensures staff competency, regulatory compliance, and the delivery of high-quality, resident-centered care. The Staff Development Nurse plays a critical role in onboarding, ongoing training, and performance improvement initiatives while supporting a culture of clinical excellence. Additionally, this role assists with scheduling for CNAs and nursing staff to ensure appropriate coverage, operational efficiency, and continuity of quality resident care.
Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and implement ongoing educational programs for nursing and support staff
- Conduct new employee orientation and onboarding
- Evaluate staff competencies and coordinate in-service training
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility standards
- Support infection control and quality assurance programs
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff
Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alabama
- At least three years of nursing experience
- Experience in long-term care or geriatric population preferred
- Experience as a Staff Development Nurse is highly preferred
- Clerical ability to read reports and utilize data accurately
- Skill in organizing and planning programs and managing personnel
- Ability to plan and direct the department, coordinating with other departments
