About the role
Mustang Cat is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant II to join our Accounting team at our corporate headquarters in Houston, Texas. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting related to used equipment operations, inventory accounting, and partnership accounting.
Responsibilities
- Perform accounting and reconciliation activities related to used machinery sales costing and inventory.
- Prepare and reconcile Heavy Equipment Inventory Tax and Motor Vehicle Inventory Tax reports.
- Reconcile Accounts Receivable, Notes Receivable, Bad Debt Allowance, accrual accounts, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain accounting records for partnership entities and assist with monthly close activities.
- Analyze monthly used machinery and partnership gross profits and expenses.
- Prepare financial reports and provide analysis to department leadership.
- Identify discrepancies, research variances, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support continuous process improvement initiatives within the Accounting department.
- Perform additional accounting and financial analysis duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
- Minimum of three (3) years of accounting experience.
- Strong account reconciliation and financial analysis skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Experience using Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, and VLOOKUP.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and analytical abilities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with inventory accounting.
- Experience in dealership, construction, heavy equipment, or multi-location environments.
- Knowledge of QuickBooks.
- Experience working with partnership accounting and financial reporting.
