About the role
Join UChicago Medicine as a Staff Accountant for Hospital Operations. This is primarily a work-from-home opportunity with a requirement to come on-site 1-2 days per week to our Burr Ridge facility. You may be based outside of the greater Chicagoland area.
Responsibilities
- Perform month-end close responsibilities, including timely and accurate preparation and posting of monthly journal entries in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Prepare monthly account analysis and reconciliations to ensure high-quality financial statements; responsible for reconciliation remediation and ongoing transaction quality, including explanation of key monthly variances to actual and budget.
- Provide monthly financial reporting and analysis to operational leaders and senior management, delivering clear and concise information on financial performance.
- Support internal, external, and other regulatory audit activities, including preparation of audit work papers, account reconciliation, and preparation of audited financial statements.
- Recommend changes and improvements to monthly close and accounting processes to increase efficiencies, accuracy, and reliability of financial statement reporting, including expansion and use of our ERP and artificial intelligence.
- Serve as a key business partner to the operations you support, providing relevant and timely financial information.
- Partner with other members of the finance team to support budgeting, financial analysis, and ad-hoc report requests.
- Perform special projects and tasks as assigned by management to support departmental growth.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in financial reporting and accounting.
- Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and concepts, including Revenue, Prepaids, Accruals, and Inventory.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team to solve problems and drive continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, reporting tools, Excel, and other analytical tools.
- Knowledge of large-scale, complex Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and transaction flow impacts.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or CFA certification.
Schedule
- Full-time (1.0 FTE), Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
- Hybrid schedule: 1–2 days per week on-site at Burr Ridge, IL; remote the remainder of the week.
Pay
The pay range reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected for this position, based on full-time employment (1.0 FTE) and current market data. Compensation at hire will vary based on candidate qualifications, experience, and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
