Sr. Technical Program Manager, Energy Service AI Applications
What To Expect
We're seeking a highly motivated and experienced Technical Program/Product Manager (TPM) to join the fastest growing area of Tesla: Energy. This is a unique opportunity to blend your product management acumen with a technical or software engineering background to drive the successful delivery of complex AI products. These will be some of the highest visibility technical programs on the Energy Team. You will be the glue that binds product vision, engineering execution, and cross-functional collaboration amongst firmware, software, product, and service engineering teams to ensure we build the right features, the right way, and at the right time for internal and external users.
What You'll Do
Technical Project Management: Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex software development projects, from inception to launch. This includes defining what we are building for users, the project scope, timelines, engineering resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Facilitate communication and collaboration between firmware, software, service engineering, and applications engineering teams to ensure alignment and transparency throughout the program’s lifecycle
Software Engineering Expertise: Leverage your software engineering or technical background to understand engineering challenges, contribute to technical discussions, and effectively communicate with engineering teams. This role requires that you have familiarity with Github and that you can write code (note: There will be a coding portion during the interview process.)
Governance Oversight: Establish and enforce software development standards, code review processes, and release criteria across engineering teams to ensure consistent product quality, compliance with internal policies, and readiness for production deployment. Particularly, in a world where vibe coding enables new users to build
Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance project efficiency, quality, and predictability
Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate potential risks and roadblocks, escalating issues as needed and developing contingency plans
Metrics & Reporting: Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project success and provide regular updates to stakeholders, including Directors and VPs on project status, risks, and dependencies
What You'll Bring
Degree in Computer Science, Operations Research, Engineering, or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience in technical program management, preferably in a software development or technical program environment
Solid understanding of software development methodologies and software development lifecycles; hands-on frontend or backend software engineering experience is a significant advantage
Sound judgement in identifying appropriate use cases for AI solutions while recognizing technical limitations and constraints
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, including the ability to be clear and concise
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including knowledge of SQL and basic table structures
Experience with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Microsoft ThinkCell)
