Sr. System Administrator

About the role

Our work depends on a TS/SCI‑cleared Systems Administrator joining our team to support our intelligence customer in Springfield, VA. As a System Administrator (College Desktop Support), you will provide excellent technical support to NGA College end‑users, maintain desktop systems, and ensure reliable operation of computer systems. You will work closely with both on‑site and remote users to resolve issues, coordinate upgrades, and provide hands‑on support for desktop environments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as an NGA College liaison for all NGA events involving UDS IT equipment and/or requiring UDS support.
• Develop technical solutions for software, hardware, configurations, and architecture.
• Interpret moderately complex systems matters and provide troubleshooting support for highly complex hardware and software issues.
• Perform advanced software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
• Monitor and tune systems to achieve optimum performance levels.
• Guide less‑experienced personnel on workstation/server data integrity and implementation of standard software and hardware solutions.
• Lead complex data/media recoverability following backup and archive schedules.
• Evaluate existing systems and plan long‑term strategies.
• Configure and maintain networked computer systems, including hardware, system software, and applications.
• Conduct advanced hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.
• Act as a recognized subject‑matter expert, establishing operational plans and managing large projects with limited oversight.
• Manage inventory of UDS‑deployed software and end‑user devices.
• Utilize Cisco TMS to facilitate VTC calls.
• Provide strong written and verbal communication with both technical and non‑technical colleagues.
• Train end‑users in proper use of hardware and software, including large‑group training.
• Coach and review work of less‑experienced professionals; may serve as a team or task leader (not a people manager).
• Provide after‑hours or weekend support for mission, program, and special project needs.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship with TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain a CI polygraph.
• 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Security+ or CASP certification; ITIL v4 Foundations.
• Knowledge in one or more of the following: Thin Client using Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) technology.
• Experience with Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 7, Citrix, SMS, SCCM.
• Proficiency with end‑user hardware: thin clients, thick monitors, KVMs, printers, plotters, print server configurations, VoIP phones, desktop image management, home directory and profile support.
• Strong troubleshooting capabilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong work ethic, attention to detail, and consistent documentation of work.
• Effective time‑management and ability to work flexible schedules.
• Physical ability to move and lift computers, printers, monitors, and other hardware.
• Team player mindset; willingness to share knowledge and learn from others.
• Enthusiasm and adaptability to new and changing technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) with 8 years of experience, or equivalent work experience.

Schedule

May require after‑hours support or weekend support for mission, program, and special project needs.

Pay

Virginia pay range: $110,000 – $117,500 USD.
